Nosings/treads should only be fixed to steps which are sound and level. If the steps require to be repaired or levelled, this must be carried out before fixing, allowing concrete or screed, etc., to fully cure. We recommend that all treads are screw fixed and that where the chosen profile has a going greater than 100mm an adhesive is also used as a bedding medium For concrete, stone, terrazzo, etc. place the pre-drilled nosing/tread on to the step and mark off the hole positions. Remove the nosing/tread, drill the fixing holes to the required depth, insert the plastic plugs and sweep off all drill dust. If using adhesives as well as screws, apply it to the underside of nosing/tread leaving a margin at the back edge and at the ends to prevent unnecessary oozing. Reposition the nosing/tread and secure with screws. Fixing to timber requires screws only whereas fixing to steel requires either a nut, bolt and washer assembly or a self-tapping screw, as preferred. All nosings/treads are supplied pre-drilled and countersunk in the aluminium rib for No 8 screws as standard. As the screw heads remain exposed in the finished installation, stainless steel fixings are recommended. Holes are drilled 75mm in from ends and then between 225mm and 300mm centres depending on the length of the nosing/tread. The pattern of the holes, i.e./ whether in a single line, in pairs or staggered, is determined by the number of ribs in the particular profile. Further details can be obtained on request.
