When it comes to the manufacture of durable anti-slip stair tread and nosings, few companies can boast the heritage of TST Ltd. Evolving in 2002 from The Safety Tread Limited, who were originally The Safety Tread Syndicate when first founded in the mid-1800's, TST retains much of it's forebears' expertise in the industry as well as many of it's proven product designs. Indeed, the ALLITE range of today is a direct descendant of the 'Mason's Patent Safety Tread', so called after one of the Syndicate's founders, Joseph Mason, discovered that a tread surface configured with narrow pockets of concrete between cast iron ribs provided much improved foot traction, particularly on wet stairs. The use of concrete and iron may have long since been replaced by carborundum and aluminium but the principal of that original design remains as effective today as ever, which is why the ALLITE range now includes nineteen different profiles for you to choose from as standard.
With the introduction in recent times of the DDA came the company's newest product range; DEFINER. Responding to the requirements to provided improved definition at the step edge for the benefit of the visually impaired, DEFINER offers the same proven anti-slip to the walking surfaces as the ALLITE range but also features a highlighter strip on the nosing face. This combination facilitates better judgement of the step height as well as it's depth, both aspects being key to the prevention of trips and slips. This still expanding range is currently available in eight different profiles.
Whatever the history of their design, the one thing which unites all TST's stair treads and nosing is that they remain the choice of specifiers and installers alike whose peace of mind comes from choosing products with a proven track record of performance.
